The Magnificent Prayers

A Secret to Happiness

The Wonderful Power of the Mass

Suppose you are most anxious to get from God some great favour, and suppose HE told St. Michael, the Archangel, to gather into one vast Cathedral.

1. All the millions of the faithful, bishops, priests, religious, etc. now on earth. 2. All the souls in purgatory. 3. All the millions of saints in heaven. 4. All the millions of angels also: and then, suppose that all these were the Blessed Virgin at their head, were told to blow down in profound adoration before God, and with all the fervour they were capable of, to praise Him and to ask him to grant you the favour you desire. Consider what an immense amount of glory this would give to God, and what wonderful power it would have with him! Yet, the power of one single Mass is infinitely greater than all this. And why? Because in the Mass it is not angels and saints alone who pray for you; it is Jesus Christ Himself, and He not only prays for you but He also offers up His merits for you, and as He is God, His prayers and His merits give infinitely more glory to God and are infinitely more powerful than the united prayers and offerings of all the angels and men, even if they were continued for all eternity. We ought then to value the Mass above all things; we should try to hear it with the greatest attention, and, most important of all, we should offer our prayers in union with the prayers of Christ; this will make them all-powerful. The following prayers will help us to do this; they should be said immediately after the Consecration and Communion, and at visit.

ADORATION – O my God, I adore Thee, through Jesus Christ Who is really present in my bosom (said after Communion), or on the altar (said after Consecration) or (at a visit) and Who is adoring Thee, offering Himself to Thee for me. I offer Thee His Infinite Merits.

THANKS – O my God I thank Thee through Jesus Who is really present in my bosom (or on the altar) and Who is thanking Thee for me and offering Himself for me: I offer Thee His Infinite Merits.

PETITION – O my God. I ask for all blessings through Jesus Who is really present in my bosom (or on the altar) and Who is praying and offering Himself for me. I offer Thee his Infinite Merits.

TEN REASONS FOR HEARING MASS

The Mass is the best means we have
1 To render God the highest adoration.
2 To thank Him for all His blessings.
3 To obtain all the favours you desire.
4 To shorten your own purgatory and that of others.
5 To preserve you from all dangers to soul and body.
6 To increase your store of sanctifying grace.
7 At the hour of death the Masses you have heard will be your greatest consolation.
8 Every Mass heard will go with you to judgement to plead for pardon for you.
9 One Mass heard during life will do you more good than many heard for you after your death.
10 Nothing is more powerful for bringing down God’s blessing on you for the day than to hear Mass; therefore try to hear Mass every day or as often as possible and twice on Sundays.

AT COMMUNION, MASS or at VISIT

IN this Sacrament, Sweet Jesus
Thou dost give Thy flesh and blood,
With They soul and God-head also,
As our most precious food.
Yes, dear Jesus, I believe it,
And Thy presence I adore,
And with all my heart I love Thee,
May I love Thee more and more.
Come, Sweet Jesus, in They mercy,
Give Thy flesh and blood to me,
Come to me, O dearest Jesus,
Come my soul’s true life to be.
Come that I may live for ever,
Thou in me and I in Thee
Living Thus I shall not perish,
But shall live eternally.
PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF SORROWS
Mother of Sorrows, by the love with which you stood by the Cross of Jesus, stand by me in my last agony. To our maternal heart I commend the three last hours of my life. Offer these hours to the Eternal Father in union with the agony of our Dearest Lord. Offer frequently to the Eternal Father in atonement for my sins, the Precious Blood of Jesus, mingled with your tears on Calvary, to obtain for me the grace to receive Holy Communion with the most perfect love and contrition before my death, and to breathe forth my soul in the actual presence of Jesus. Dearest Mother, when the hour has at last come, present me as your child to Jesus. Say to Him on my behalf: Son, forgive her for she knew not what she did. Receive her this day into Thy Kingdom. Mother of Jesus be a Mother to me. Amen.
NOVENA OF CONFIDENCE TO
THE SACRED HEART
Lord Jesus to your Sacred Heart.
I confide (this intention)
Only look, then do what Your Heart inspired.
Let Your Heart decide
I count on it, I trust in it,
I throw myself on its mercy.
Lord Jesus. You will not fail me.

Though I have asked for a long time, still I ask Thee, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, once more to plead for me to Thy broken, bleeding, pleading Heart. When covered with the crimson cloak of Thy Most Precious Blood. They Eternal Father cannot refuse to hear, not my prayer, but Thine.

THE GOLDEN CORD
Through every moment of this day, be with me Lord.
Through every day of all this week, be with me Lord.
Through every week of all this year, be with me Lord.
Through every year of all this life, be with me Lord.
That so when time is past, by grace I may at last be with Thee, Lord
